DIVISION GUIDELINES

Skill-Based Placement & Competition Rules

​

Competitors must enter the division that reflects the highest-level skill they are capable of performing or intend to include in their routine.

 

If organisers or judges become aware that a competitor has entered a division below their appropriate level, the competitor may be contacted to address and resolve the issue.

 

If a competitor performs a pole skill that exceeds the guidelines of their entered division, they may, at the discretion of the organisers or judges, be:

 

  • Moved to a higher division

  • Subject to point penalties

  • Disqualified

 

Previous competition placements must also be considered when selecting the appropriate division.

DIVISION BREAKDOWN

• BEGINNER • ELEMENTARY • INTERMEDIATE
• ADVANCED • ELITE/AMATEUR • OPEN • DANCE

Competitors should enter the division that best reflects their current level of training and experience.

 

To ensure fair and balanced competition
The organisers or judges will review audition videos and may reassign competitors to a more appropriate division where necessary.

 

*Please use the level divisions below as a general guide. As pole is not a regulated industry, minor adjustments may be made to ensure divisions best reflect the overall standard of entries received.

BEGINNER

​​​Must NOT have placed in Beginner at another pole competition or in-house competition.

 

Level Guide

Absolute Newbie

Intent
Mostly grounded, no upside-down work.

 

Example of Suitable Moves & Skills

  • Simple spins: eg: Chair, Front Hook, Back Hook, Fireman

  • Basic climbs and holds: Pole Climb, Pole Sit

  • Basic floorwork: Pirouette, Fan Kick, Floor Rolls
     

Example of Restrictions

  • Any inversions (ground or aerial)

  • Any upside-down shapes

  • Leg hang

Beginner

ELEMENTARY

Must NOT have placed in Intermediate at another pole competition or in-house competition.

 

Level Guide

Between Beginner & Intermediate

Intent
Intro to inverted work, but still very controlled.

​

Example of Suitable Moves & Skills

  • Ground-based inversions (Eg: Straddle & Crucifix)

  • Simple leg hangs

  • Spins with basic grip changes
     

Example of Restrictions

  • Removing both hands from the pole (except Crucifix)

  • Single-leg grips or holds (eg outside leg hang)

Elementary

INTERMEDIATE

​​​Must NOT have placed in Intermediate at another pole competition or in-house competition.

Intermediate


Intent
Strong foundations, no elite strength or dynamics.

Example of Suitable Moves & SkillsA

  • Aerial Invert

  • Extended leg hangs

  • Shoulder Mount (basic only, from floor)

  • Simple sliding drops without releasing

  • Aerial Shoulder Mount

  • Handspring & Ayesha

  • Dynamic flips or Drops

  • Re-griping at height

Intermediate

ADVANCED

Must NOT have placed in Advanced at another pole competition or in-house competition.

 

Level Guide

Pre-Advanced / Advanced

Intent

High strength, controlled dynamics, no extreme risk.

Example of Suitable Moves & Skills

  • Ayesha (No grip change)

  • Handspring Ayesha (from ground only)

  • Shoulder Mount variations

  • Re-grips and release moves
     

Example of Restrictions​

  • Deadlift handsprings

  • Extreme dynamic flips (Fonji, Phoenix)

  • Extreme flexibility tricks

  • Dangerous or uncontrolled drops

  • Advanced aerial combos

Advanced

ELITE/AMATEUR

Must NOT have placed in any high-level / professional division, pole competition or in-house competition.

Intent

Elite level tricks & skills

Example of Suitable Moves & Skills

  • Fonji, Phoenix - Deadlift Handspring / Ayesha

  • Handspring Ayesha with grip changes

  • Extreme flex tricks

  • High-level dynamic transitions

  • Advanced aerial combos

  • High-level drops & Flips

  • None (subject to safety approval)

Elite

OPEN​​​

No restrictions for OPEN division​​​

 

Level Guide

Open to any level higher than Amateur, with no age restriction.

Intent

Highly skilled performers with or without experience on stage.

  • All moves and transitions allowed

  • None

Open

DANCE

A performance centred on dance, artistry, movement, and expression without the use of the pole. Emphasis is placed on musicality, performance quality, and stage presence.
 

Level Guide

Open to all levels


Intent

Showcase musicality, performance quality, and audience connection through dance.

  • Floor Flow

  • Exotic

  • Jazz

  • Lyrical/Contemporary

  • Heels

  • Burlesque

  • Chair Dance

  • Strip Tease (no nudity, nipple covers permitted)

  • Must not use or make contact with the pole at any time during the performance
